Tulips in all their glory
Bringers of beauty when we need it most

The first tulips have appeared in the shops Ė and given us all hope that Spring is not too far away! These long dark cold and rainy days of January and February are cheerless and we need some visual joy and splendour: none better to provide it than tulips!

Iím not sure thereís much in the way of medicinal uses for tulips, although one source says that in the old days girls in Holland used crushed petals to brighten their cheeks and lips, and another that tulips were used to calm itchy hands.

But then along comes a modern source telling us that tulips contain a chemical compound that induces dermatitis. Oh well: letís forget all tha. Never mind the other uses that tulips may or may not have. We love them for what they are: beautiful. That, surely, is plenty!
